Shamsuddinhon Bobokhonov
Shamsuddinkhon Bobokhonov was known for his work in Islamic sciences, including theology, philosophy and history. He was also an active defender of human rights and democratic values in Uzbekistan. In 1992, he was elected a member of the Uzbek Parliament, where he advocated for religious freedom and human rights.
He was born in the city of Tashkent in 1937 in the family of Ziyovuddinkhan ibn Eshan Bobokhan. He graduated from high school with honors. He majors in English philology at the Tashkent Institute of Foreign Languages. Shamsiddinkhan enters the postgraduate course of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of the former USSR. In October 1962, Shamsuddin Khan was accepted as senior referent in the department of international relations of Muslim organizations within the Religious Council under the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union. Taking into account that he is seriously engaged in Arabic philology, the leadership of the Council sends Shamsuddin Khan to Al-Azhar University in Cairo to improve his skills in Arabic language and husnikhat. He will spend four years in Cairo, and after returning to Moscow, he will continue to serve as a senior referent in the international department of Muslim organizations. He participates in international religious conferences as part of representatives of Muslims of the Union, gives lectures. He returned from several trips abroad to get acquainted with the life of our fellow believers abroad. Shamsuddin Khan, who took an active part in the establishment and development of international relations in these ways, is known in the Islamic world as the son of Mufti Ziyavuddin Khan and an oriental scholar.
In 1973, he completed postgraduate studies in Moscow and successfully defended his candidate’s thesis on the topic of “The category of binary numbers in the Arabic language”. Shamsiddinkhan Bokhanov is the author of a number of popular scientific books, pamphlets and articles, and was awarded the Abu Ali ibn Sina international award for his educational activities.
